Forza Horizon enthusiasts may have encountered limitations when trying to sell certain vehicles in the auction house, and the iconic Volkswagen Beetle is often among those restricted. This situation, while sometimes frustrating, stems from measures implemented to maintain game balance and prevent unintended economic exploits within the Forza Horizon ecosystem.
The roots of these restrictions can be traced back to incidents following expansions like the LEGO Speed Champions update. Clever players realized they could auction off rare LEGO cars, such as the Bugatti Chiron LEGO, for significant in-game currency. However, this created problems when players later needed these cars to complete specific accolades and races within the expansion. Those who had sold their LEGO cars found themselves unable to progress, as these vehicles were essential for certain challenges.
In response to these issues, Playground Games (PG) took action to prevent similar scenarios. They removed these specific LEGO cars and, subsequently, other ultra-rare vehicles from the auction house. This decision, while preventing exploits, also meant that players who had mistakenly sold these cars had no way to reacquire them through the auction system.
This policy extends beyond just LEGO cars. Currently, many of the most sought-after vehicles, including barn finds and loyalty reward cars gifted for playing previous Forza titles, are also non-auctionable. While some might perceive this as overly restrictive, it serves a purpose. Preventing the auction of these ultra-rare cars maintains their exclusivity and prevents market flooding that could devalue legitimate player efforts in obtaining them through gameplay.
For dedicated Forza collectors, like those who aspire to own one of every car, these restrictions present a minor inconvenience but are ultimately understandable. The desire to acquire multiple copies of cars like the VW Beetle, perhaps for customization with diverse body kits, is a common collector’s aspiration. However, the inability to buy and sell these specific models freely in the auction house doesn’t detract from the core Forza experience. True Forza players understand the value of car collecting within the game and appreciate the measures in place to preserve the integrity of the car economy, even if it means a bit more effort to acquire that extra Volkswagen Beetle.
