SRS Malfunction Mercedes Persists After Airbag Replacement: Seeking Expert Advice

I’m facing a persistent SRS Malfunction warning light in my Mercedes after replacing the driver’s side airbag and pre-tensioner. Initially, only the driver’s side airbag and pre-tensioner had deployed, while the passenger side appeared to be in good condition. After replacing the deployed components and clearing the crash data from the SRS module, I still have the SRS Malfunction indicator illuminated.

A diagnostic scan was performed, and all fault codes were cleared. However, upon rescanning, a single fault code related to the “Left Retractor” reappeared. This leads to my first question: what exactly does Mercedes-Benz mean by “Left Retractor”? Is this referring to the seatbelt reel, the pre-tensioner/stalk assembly, or another component entirely? I have sourced both the seatbelt reel and pre-tensioner/stalk for testing purposes, but clarification on the “Left Retractor” would be greatly appreciated to streamline the troubleshooting process.

Adding to the complexity, the car is currently not starting. Upon turning the key, there’s only a clicking sound originating from the starter motor area, and the engine fails to turn over. My initial thought was that this no-start issue might be linked to the SRS warning. However, further research suggests a more likely culprit: a blown Pyro Fuse. According to the Mercedes parts list, this fuse is described as ‘FUSE BOX DIRECT START FRONT PREFUSE BOX, FRONT BATTERY F32’, with part numbers A 172 540 11 50 or A 172 540 09 50.

Unfortunately, this Pyro Fuse is currently on backorder at Mercedes-Benz with no estimated time of arrival. Therefore, I am keen to test the existing fuse in the car to determine if it is indeed faulty. Has anyone encountered this specific issue before, and is there a straightforward method to test the functionality of this Pyro Fuse? Any guidance or shared experiences regarding either the “Left Retractor” or the Pyro Fuse testing would be invaluable in resolving these issues. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
