Rolls-royce Defence stands as a global leader in providing power and propulsion solutions for naval and coast guard applications. Located in Walpole, Massachusetts, our facility employs 130 specialists dedicated to delivering critical ship propulsor systems. This includes the manufacture of sophisticated Controllable-Pitch Propellers (CPP), robust Fixed-Pitch Propellers, and cutting-edge Waterjets, all essential for modern naval vessels.

For over half a century, the Walpole team has been at the forefront of producing world-class naval equipment. Rolls-Royce’s expertise spans the entire product lifecycle, from initial design and development to comprehensive aftermarket support and servicing. We deliver the power that is critical for our customers across a diverse range of maritime operations.

A cornerstone of our business is supporting navies worldwide, with the U.S. Navy as our largest and most prominent customer. Rolls-Royce propulsion and service technologies are integrated into over 95% of the U.S. Navy’s surface warfare fleet. Our support extends to a vast array of vessel types, encompassing Frigates, Destroyers, Aircraft Carriers, Amphibious ships, Combatants, Fleet Support and Auxiliary Ships, as well as U.S. Coast Guard Cutters.

Rolls-Royce is distinguished by its ability to meet the U.S. Navy’s rigorous military specifications, a testament to our advanced technologies and engineering excellence. Few organizations globally possess this capability. Looking ahead, Rolls-Royce Defence is committed to pioneering propulsion systems for the next generation of naval vessels, including the rapidly evolving field of unmanned autonomous ships.

Reflecting our dedication to the U.S. Navy and the naval sector, Rolls-Royce announced a significant $7.7 million investment in our Walpole facility in 2019. This project is enhancing our manufacturing, repair, and testing capabilities to better serve critical U.S. Navy programs. The expansion, completed in late 2020, added a new 24,000 square foot facility, integrating water jet Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services into Rolls-Royce Walpole’s portfolio of world-class naval defense solutions. This further solidifies Rolls-Royce’s position as a key partner for naval power and propulsion.
