While the Honda Civic Si was a strong contender, the Nissan Sentra SE-R boasted a more potent engine, stylish alloy wheels, and the coveted limited-slip differential. Crucially, it often came with a more accessible price tag, making high-performance driving attainable for more enthusiasts. Adding to its appeal was its proven track record, reigning as the SCCA D Stock champion, solidifying its credentials as a true driver’s car.
Imagine finding a brand-new, no-frills SE-R on the dealership lot. Air conditioning was the sole concession to luxury, with even the radio omitted in favor of a simple blanking plate. The original sticker price of $13,315 in 1992 translates to roughly $28,392 today, surprisingly close to the modern Civic Si’s MSRP. This price point underscored the incredible value proposition of the SER.
Equipped with some sticky Yokohama tires and a SuperTrapp exhaust, the Nissan SER became a reliable autocross companion for years.
