This new edition builds upon the BMW X3’s 20-year legacy of success. Pioneering the SAV segment in the premium midsize category, the BMW X3 has been pivotal in the growing popularity of BMW’s X models, becoming the brand’s top-selling model in 2023. Production of the new BMW X3 will take place at BMW Group Plants Spartanburg in the USA and Rosslyn in South Africa, emphasizing resource conservation and circularity in the manufacturing process. The market launch is slated for Europe and the USA in the fourth quarter of 2024, followed by a global rollout starting in January 2025.

Striking New Design Emphasizes Distinctive Proportions

The fourth-generation BMW X3 showcases a new exterior design language, creating a robust and monolithic presence while retaining classic BMW X proportions. Expansive surfaces and precisely sculpted lines define a clearly structured exterior, streamlined to its essential elements. The new BMW X3 has grown in size, now 4,755 millimeters long (+34mm), and 1,920 millimeters wide (+29mm). Combined with a reduced height of 1,660 millimeters (-25mm) and wider tracks, the vehicle achieves a powerful and athletic stance.

The upright front end of the new BMW X3 is dominated by a large BMW kidney grille, exuding confidence. A novel grille interior structure with vertical and diagonal bars adds a contemporary touch. Optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting creates a continuous illuminated outline around the grille elements. The LED headlights feature L-shaped, overlapping light sources for daytime running lights, side lights, and turn indicators. Adaptive LED Headlights with matrix high beam, urban light, cornering light, and blue design accents are available as options, along with M Shadowline lights.

The sporty silhouette is accentuated by bold side skirts and a roofline that flows smoothly into the rear. Pronounced wheel arches contribute to a wide and powerful rear appearance. The flush-mounted rear window is framed by an extended roof spoiler and integrated side air deflectors. All BMW X3 models, except the X3 M50 xDrive, feature discreetly integrated exhaust tailpipes within the rear apron. The rear lights feature a modern interpretation of the signature T-shaped graphic and a satin-finish horizontal bar with integrated turn signals.

The M Sport package Pro further includes Iconic Glow contour lighting and M Sport brakes with red calipers.

Sporty Premium Interior and Generous Space

The interior of the new BMW X3 seamlessly combines SAV functionality with spaciousness and a distinctly premium atmosphere. The BMW Curved Display, BMW Interaction Bar, flat-bottomed steering wheels, and a redesigned gear selector lever define the cockpit’s modern interpretation of BMW’s driver-centric design. Unique model-specific details include illuminated elements in a contrasting color on the center console and door trims. This design element is positioned towards the front doors, framing function buttons, ventilation controls, air vents, and robust door openers characteristic of BMW X models.

The interior’s bespoke ambiance is matched by generous space and versatility. The luggage compartment capacity ranges from 570 to 1,700 liters (BMW X3 30e xDrive: 460 – 1,600 liters). An optional electrically operated trailer coupling is available, with a maximum trailer load of 2,500 kilograms, depending on the model.

BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, with fully variable power distribution, is standard across all model variants.

Enhanced Agility and Ride Comfort

The new BMW X3 models demonstrate a marked improvement in agility, cornering stability, and long-distance comfort compared to the previous generation. This is achieved through a lighter yet more rigid body, wider rear track, and refined chassis components and control systems. Modifications to the kinematic and elastokinematic properties of the double-joint spring strut front axle and five-link rear axle enhance cornering precision, while a 19 percent increase in caster offset improves straight-line stability. Near-actuator wheel slip limitation and an integrated braking system are also standard chassis technologies.

Optional M Sport suspension, including sport steering and M Sport brakes (standard on BMW X3 M50 xDrive), is available for enhanced dynamics. Adaptive suspension, also optional, further refines the balance between agility and ride comfort.
