Tesla Model X Price Adjustment: Exploring the New Price Point and Incentives

Tesla has recently adjusted the Model X Price, marking an increase for its electric SUV lineup. This update sees the Model X price for both the Long Range and Plaid versions elevated by $5,000. The Long Range variant now starts at $84,990, while the high-performance Plaid version is listed at $99,990.

This price revision impacts the Model X’s eligibility for the $7,500 Federal EV tax credit. Electric SUVs priced above $80,000 no longer qualify for this incentive, placing the updated Model X price outside the range for federal tax credits.

However, alongside the price increase, Tesla is introducing a suite of incentives aimed at softening the financial impact for buyers. These incentives include a $1,000 price reduction when using a referral code, a complimentary option when purchasing the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package, and the return of “free Supercharging for life” for new Model X orders.

The reintroduction of free Supercharging is particularly noteworthy given CEO Elon Musk’s past statements deeming it unsustainable and stating it would “not come back to any vehicles.” Initially discontinued due to these concerns, free Supercharging was briefly offered as an end-of-year incentive previously. Now, it’s back for Model S and Model X orders placed in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, Europe, and the Middle East.

A key change to the free Supercharging program is its linkage to the Tesla account rather than the vehicle itself. This means the benefit is not transferable upon vehicle resale. Tesla specifies that this incentive is for personal use, excluding vehicles intended for commercial purposes like taxis or ride-sharing services. While Tesla has mentioned enforcement challenges in the past, the current terms clearly outline the limitations of this offer linked to the Model X price.

In summary, while the Model X price has increased, Tesla is attempting to maintain its appeal by offering significant incentives, most notably the return of free Supercharging, to potential customers considering the electric SUV.
