This day was filled with joyful anticipation for the Shirts and Kelso families, and I had the honor of capturing Chris and Mercedes’ special day. From quiet prayers before the ceremony to lively Texas two-stepping on the dance floor, every moment contributed to an unforgettable celebration in Boise.
How Mercedes Boise Began: An Engagement Story
Chris and Mercedes’ story began in Boise, Idaho, at Pie Hole pizza, just before Christmas Eve. Chris was immediately captivated by Mercedes’ warm brown eyes and genuine spirit, while Mercedes was drawn to Chris’ distinguished gray hair and affectionate nature. Their first date at Bardenay, followed by Kalimotxo at the Basque Center, solidified their connection. Completely enamored, they faced a geographical challenge as Mercedes returned to San Antonio and Chris to his Air Force station in South Korea.
Despite the distance, their connection deepened through countless FaceTime dates and a visit in San Francisco. Mercedes then journeyed to South Korea twice, for three weeks in March and again in June. Early in their relationship, a fortunate turn of events occurred: Chris received news of his stationing in San Antonio in July 2017. They both recognized this as a sign, a providential moment confirming their paths were meant to converge.
After establishing their life together in San Antonio, Chris chose a meaningful location for his proposal. On Christmas Eve Eve in Weiser, Idaho, close to Boise, he asked Mercedes to marry him.
A Boise Wedding Day
The wedding day began at the Inn at 500 in downtown Boise, where I joined Mercedes and her bridal party. As Mercedes had her makeup done, her niece, with wide blue eyes, sat on her lap, watching with fascination. The bridesmaids looked lovely in matching purple robes, a theme echoed by the flower girl and Mercedes’s little niece in charming lavender dresses.
