The Lo Res Car stands as a testament to innovative design, earning the prestigious 2016 Wallpaper Design Award and becoming an iconic symbol of United Nude’s distinctive approach. This vehicle originated from the Lo Res Project, a concept central to the brand’s DNA. The core idea behind the Lo Res design method is to progressively reimagine an object by systematically reducing its 3D resolution. This process leads to increasingly fragmented and abstract designs with each iteration. The Lo Res Car’s distinctive form was achieved by applying this technique to the legendary Lamborghini Countach, a design masterpiece crafted by Marcello Gandini for Bertone in the early 1970s.
More than just a means of transportation, the Lo Res Car is best understood as a conceptual design experiment. It challenges conventional automotive aesthetics and explores the boundaries of form and perception.
Featuring tandem seating for two, with the passenger positioned behind the driver, the Lo Res Car offers a truly unique driving experience. Encased within its transparent polycarbonate capsule, occupants glide through urban landscapes with an unparalleled sense of immersion. Powered by an electric drivetrain, its current speed is intentionally limited to 50 km/h. It’s important to note that the Lo Res Car is not street legal in its current form. This deliberate choice was made to preserve its radical and experimental design integrity, prioritizing conceptual exploration over regulatory compliance.
The Lo Res Car’s Pop Culture Moment: 50 Million Views in Rich The Kid’s Music Video
The global reach of the Lo Res Car extends beyond the design world. After its 2016 Wallpaper Magazine Design Award win, this innovative vehicle has journeyed across the globe, with the total number of Lo Res Cars now reaching four. Beyond exhibitions and film appearances, the Lo Res Car achieved a significant pop culture milestone with its feature in Rich The Kid’s “New Freezer” music video featuring Kendrick Lamar.
Rem D Koolhaas, Creative Director and Founder of United Nude, shared his enthusiasm about this collaboration: “Being part of this video production was a great experience. It was about experimentation and pushing boundaries, which resonates deeply with our design ethos. When Rich The Kid raps about driving a ‘Space Coupe’ in his latest single, it’s clear to me – he’s rapping about this car!”
