This ambitious endeavor saw Jaguar, in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering, create a groundbreaking all-wheel-drive, plug-in parallel hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). At its heart was the world’s highest specific power engine, combined with Jaguar’s first-ever carbon composite monocoque chassis. This fusion of technologies immediately positioned the C-X75 as a frontrunner in automotive innovation.
However, in 2012, despite the remarkable progress, Jaguar made the difficult decision not to proceed with full production of the C-X75, citing the prevailing global economic climate. Yet, this decision did not diminish the project’s significance. The C-X75 had already served its crucial purpose: demonstrating Jaguar’s world-leading expertise in lightweight vehicle construction and acting as an unparalleled testbed for the company’s pioneering research into high-performance, low-emission powertrains.

The technological advancements achieved during the C-X75 prototype development, especially in hybrid technologies, carbon composite materials, and advanced design solutions – pioneered in partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering – were not confined to a single project. These innovations were strategically channeled into other areas of Jaguar’s research and development, influencing future product development and shaping the next generation of engineering for the Jaguar brand.
Unprecedented Power and Performance Metrics
The Jaguar C-x75 boasted a combined power output exceeding 850 horsepower (633.84 kW) and a staggering 1000 Nm of torque. This phenomenal power was derived from its state-of-the-art, Formula 1-inspired 1.6-liter dual-boosted four-cylinder engine. This compact powerhouse, featuring both turbocharging and supercharging, generated an impressive 502 horsepower (374.34 kW) at a thrilling 10,000 rpm.
Complementing this engine were the highest torque and power density electric motors available at the time, contributing an additional 385 horsepower (286.84 kW). The C-X75’s battery pack was also a marvel, recognized as the highest continuously rated power PHEV pack globally, capable of delivering over 300 kW consistently across its charge range.
This advanced powertrain enabled the C-X75 to achieve breathtaking acceleration, sprinting from 0 to 100 mph (160 km/h) in under 6 seconds. Its sophisticated 7-speed automated manual transmission facilitated gear shifts in less than 200 milliseconds, ensuring seamless power delivery. Initial testing of the C-X75 prototype effortlessly surpassed 200 mph (321 km/h), hinting at a theoretical top speed of 220 mph (354 km/h). Furthermore, the car’s active aerodynamics, including a deployable aerofoil and underfloor elements, generated over 200 kg of downforce at 200 mph, enhancing high-speed stability and handling.
Efficiency and Electric Capability
Beyond its performance credentials, the C-X75 also showcased remarkable efficiency and environmental consciousness. Thanks to its cutting-edge PHEV specification, it offered a pure electric driving range of 60 km, demonstrating Jaguar’s commitment to ultra-low emissions technology.
