Conrad Emile Lafond, a beloved figure in Manchester, New Hampshire, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2020, leaving behind a legacy of love, entrepreneurship, and community spirit. For 67 remarkable years, he shared his life with Vivian (Lanseigne) Lafond, his devoted wife and partner in countless adventures. Their journey together was an inspiration, marked by deep friendships, extensive travels, and a partnership that exemplified true love and mutual respect, creating a cherished family legacy of 7 children, 15 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Born in Manchester to Lucien Lafond and Louise (Desmarais) Lafond, Conrad’s roots in the Queen City ran deep. A proud graduate of St. Anthony High School in 1950, he embodied the industrious spirit of Manchester throughout his life. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Robert, Paul, and Roland, as well as two infant children.
Conrad was a true serial entrepreneur, always eager to explore new ventures and embrace challenges. His career was a testament to his versatility and drive, encompassing a range of businesses. He was known for his ownership of the Corner Cash Market, Lafond Auctioneers, and Lafond Auto Sales, showcasing his keen eye for business and his passion for connecting with people. His entrepreneurial spirit extended to real estate and antiques, reflecting a lifelong enthusiasm for buying, selling, and discovering value. Adding to his diverse professional experiences, Conrad also contributed his skills to Cote Brothers Bakery, served as a driver and Union President for Continental Trailways, and achieved recognition as a top salesman at Nault’s and, notably, Dreyer Holloway Mercedes Benz in Manchester. A devout member of St. Catherine’s Parish in Manchester, Conrad’s faith was an integral part of his life. He was a long-time member of the church choir, alongside his daughter Susan, sharing his love of music with the congregation. His home was often filled with song, whether he was serenading his grandchildren or playing the player piano. Conrad also had a playful side, considering himself a Cribbage expert, a pastime he enthusiastically shared with his entire family. His infectious joy and positive outlook were hallmarks of his personality, brightening every room he entered.
Beyond his professional and community engagements, Conrad’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Vivian, and their children: sons David and his wife Holly (Sheridan) Lafond, Dennis and his wife Celeste (Beaulieu) Lafond; and daughters Susan Lafond, Diane and her husband Dave Rousseau, Donna and her husband Peter Marx, Michelle Morin, and Lisa and her husband Jim Stanton.
