After years of navigating city streets on various electric kick scooters, I recently upgraded to the Solar P1 Pro, and the difference is night and day. My journey began with a basic Swagtron, which was underwhelming to say the least, followed by a Speedway V, marketed as a “luxury” scooter. While the Speedway V lasted for five years, it had issues from the start. Eager for a better experience, I decided to try the Solar P1 Pro, and my first ride confirmed I made the right choice.
One feature I immediately opted for was the saddle, as I find scooters much more comfortable to ride seated. At 5’5″, adjusting the saddle to the perfect height on the Solar P1 Pro took some effort. In contrast, my Speedway V sat lower to the ground, which often became a problem when encountering even small curbs. The Solar P1 Pro’s higher ground clearance is already a noticeable improvement. Another significant upgrade is the thumb throttle. Having wrist issues, I was hesitant about twist throttles, and the thumb throttle on the Solar P1 Pro is a welcome change from the finger throttle on my previous scooters.
The ride itself is remarkably smooth and quiet, a stark contrast to the jerky and noisy Speedway V. This improvement is largely thanks to the off-road tires. Living in an area with poorly maintained roads, street tires were always a compromise, resulting in a bumpy and uncomfortable ride. The Solar P1 Pro’s off-road tires handle uneven surfaces and minor road imperfections with ease, making my commute significantly more pleasant.
Beyond ride comfort, the Solar P1 Pro boasts a wide range of enhanced features. The wide display is clear and easy to read, providing all essential riding information at a glance. The dual motor, with the option to switch to single motor (front or rear), offers versatility for different riding conditions and energy conservation. The headlight is noticeably brighter and wider, enhancing visibility during night rides. Features like cruise control, various riding modes, a quiet signal, and a car-like horn are all welcome additions that contribute to a safer and more enjoyable riding experience. Security is also improved with password protection and a car alarm, features I wish my Speedway V had offered earlier (it eventually got a fingerprint reader option, but it was always out of stock).
Even small details like the kickstand demonstrate thoughtful design. It’s positioned for better scooter stability and feels much more robust than the one on the Speedway V. Overall, the Solar P1 Pro simply feels sturdier and more well-built than my previous scooter. It truly is an upgrade in every sense, especially considering it is in a similar price range to the Speedway V without any modifications.
My satisfaction with the Solar P1 Pro is immense. If I had to point out one area for improvement, it would be the assembly manual. A more detailed guide, especially for models including the saddle, would be beneficial. However, Solar Motors customer service has been exceptionally helpful and patient in answering my assembly questions and resolving any confusion. This excellent customer support further solidifies my positive experience with the Solar P1 Pro escooter.
