BMW i3 Sedan Production Set to Electrify Roads Starting July 2026

Enthusiasts and future-forward drivers are eagerly anticipating the all-electric Bmw I3 Sedan, and the wait is becoming increasingly electrifying. While the next-generation iX3 crossover is slated to arrive later this year, the focus is intensely shifting towards the i3 sedan. BMW has officially confirmed that pre-production for the highly anticipated “NA0” model is on track to commence before the close of 2025 at their Munich plant. However, patience is key for those eager to park this innovative electric vehicle in their garages, as series production of this pioneering Neue Klasse sedan is reportedly scheduled to begin in July 2026.

Initially, the BMW i3 will cater to the European market, with deliveries to customers on the continent taking precedence. Prospective buyers in the United States will need to exercise a bit more patience. According to emerging reports, the assembly of US-specification BMW i3 sedans is projected to commence in November 2026. These crucial dates, while currently unconfirmed by official BMW channels, are attributed to a reliable BMW insider frequently contributing to the Bimmer Post forums, adding a layer of credibility to the timeline.

Further details emerging from the report corroborate what keen observers have already deduced from spy photographs. The forthcoming BMW i3 sedan is poised to mirror the aesthetic of the next-generation 3 Series, codenamed “G50.” In terms of chronological order of appearance, it might be more accurate to state the reverse – that the G50 will echo the i3’s design language. Crucially, the design blueprints for both models were finalized some time ago, during Domagoj Dukec’s tenure as head of BMW Design. It’s highly plausible that the design processes for these vehicles were synchronized, reflecting a unified vision for BMW’s future sedan lineup.

Rumors even suggest a shared design philosophy extending to wheel options for both the BMW i3 and the conventionally powered 3 Series. Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group’s Head of Design, previously indicated that future models, regardless of powertrain, would exhibit striking visual similarities. Intriguingly, the latest report hints that the i3 sedan might even surpass the next 3 Series in terms of luxury appointments. Notably, features like optional massaging seats are rumored to be exclusive to the Neue Klasse-based BMW i3, further distinguishing it within the BMW sedan family.

BMW aficionados will recall that a BMW i3 sedan variant has been available in the Chinese market for approximately three years. This China-exclusive model leverages the long-wheelbase 3 Series (“G28”) platform and is built upon the familiar CLAR architecture, also underpinning the global 3 Series. This existing i3 sedan offers a glimpse into BMW’s commitment to the electric sedan segment, even before the global release of the Neue Klasse-based model.

For those preferring the traditional combustion engine within the 3 Series framework, reports suggest that production of the next-generation petrol-powered 3 Series is anticipated to commence in November 2026. The initial flagship model in this range is expected to be the M350 xDrive, with the high-performance M3 (“G84”) variant projected to join the production line in July 2028. In a strategic shift, unlike the current 3 Series production in Munich, its successor will be manufactured at BMW’s Dingolfing plant. This relocation aligns with BMW’s previously announced plan for the Munich facility to exclusively focus on electric vehicle production starting in 2027, solidifying the plant’s role in BMW’s electric future and the BMW i3’s production.
