Mercedes FI Team: A Legacy of Speed and Innovation in Formula 1

Mercedes’ modern Formula 1 journey commenced with the establishment of a works team in 2010, setting the stage for a remarkable ascent in the Grand Prix hierarchy. The team immediately sparked immense enthusiasm, highlighted by the sensational comeback of Michael Schumacher. Track success soon followed, with Nico Rosberg achieving three podium finishes in their inaugural season. Rosberg then secured a groundbreaking pole position and victory double at the Chinese Grand Prix in 2012, signaling the team’s growing prowess.

The subsequent season saw Lewis Hamilton join forces with Rosberg. This pairing ignited epic title battles as the Silver Arrows surged to the forefront, becoming a dominant force in modern F1 – a reign only recently challenged by Red Bull. However, with the accomplished race winner George Russell now alongside rising star Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes Fi Team remains a formidable competitor at the pinnacle of motorsport.

2024

Despite securing two victories each for George Russell and Lewis Hamilton with the often unpredictable W15 car, the team experienced a drop to fourth place in the overall standings. The season began with a stunning announcement: Hamilton’s impending move to Ferrari at the conclusion of the year.

2023

For the first time since 2011, Mercedes FI Team did not achieve a Grand Prix win. The W14 initially demonstrated limited improvement over its predecessor. Nevertheless, persistent development efforts ultimately enabled the team to secure second position in the constructors’ championship, surpassing Ferrari in the final race of the season.

2022

Significant regulatory changes reshaped the competitive landscape, and Mercedes’ W13 challenger fell short of expectations, positioning them as the leading team behind Red Bull and Ferrari. Newcomer George Russell claimed their single victory of the season – and outperformed Lewis Hamilton, who experienced his first winless season in Formula 1.

2021

Mercedes FI Team encountered the most substantial challenge to their turbo-hybrid era dominance. Lewis Hamilton narrowly missed securing the drivers’ championship title to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, despite achieving eight race wins. The team, however, maintained its stronghold in the constructors’ title race, securing their eighth consecutive championship.

2020

Just when it seemed impossible to improve further, Mercedes – and particularly Lewis Hamilton – elevated their performance once again. The reigning champion achieved victory in 11 races and shattered numerous records en route to equaling Michael Schumacher’s record of seven drivers’ titles, even after missing a race due to Covid-19. Valtteri Bottas contributed an additional two wins, culminating in another dominant double championship for the Silver Arrows of Mercedes FI Team.
