Toyota engineers utilized an existing transmission housing and gear set, developed a new shift lever, and eliminated unnecessary components, such as the acoustic package, to reduce weight. This resulted in a manual-equipped Supra weighing in at 3,389 pounds. A newly designed large-diameter clutch with a reinforced diaphragm spring is at the core of the transmission, providing the high-performance capability required for the GR Supra’s high-torque engine.
