The new Genesis Gv80 Coupe elevates the luxury SUV experience with a significant tech overhaul and enhanced comfort features. Stepping inside, the first thing that grabs your attention is the expansive 27-inch OLED screen. This seamlessly integrates the main instrument display and the infotainment system, presenting a vast improvement over previous GV80 models and its siblings, the G80 and GV70. While the native infotainment system is user-friendly, most drivers will likely opt for the familiar interfaces of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It’s worth noting that despite press specifications suggesting wireless connectivity for CarPlay and Android Auto, wired connection via USB-C port was necessary for iPhone CarPlay in our experience. A Qi wireless charging pad is available for convenient device charging.
Navigating the infotainment system is made easier with a jog dial, reducing driver distraction. However, the climate controls are unfortunately touchscreen-operated, which might detract from the otherwise intuitive interface.
Beyond the tech, the GV80 Coupe’s interior exudes luxury with dark leather and contrasting stitching. The driver’s seat is particularly noteworthy, featuring side bolsters that subtly tighten in Sport mode or during brisk acceleration in other driving modes, providing enhanced support. During a week of sub-freezing temperatures, the rapid heating of the seat heaters was a welcome feature, warming up within moments of departure.
An unexpected yet appreciated comfort feature is the heated center console armrest, a rarity that adds to the GV80 Coupe’s premium feel.
Genesis’ decision to recruit Albert Biermann, formerly head of BMW’s M division, to lead vehicle dynamics development has clearly paid dividends. Even after his retirement, his influence remains evident in the GV80 Coupe’s exceptional damping. The SUV adeptly absorbs low-speed impacts from potholes and speed bumps, preventing the jarring side-to-side motion often experienced in other SUVs, ensuring a composed and comfortable ride for all occupants.
In conclusion, the Genesis GV80 Coupe offers a compelling blend of cutting-edge technology, luxurious comfort, and refined driving dynamics, making it a strong contender in the luxury SUV market.
