In their debut season, the Mercedes Petronas team secured three podium finishes, all thanks to Nico Rosberg. 2024
The 2024 season has presented challenges, with Mercedes Petronas currently positioned fourth overall, despite George Russell and Lewis Hamilton each securing two victories in the somewhat unpredictable W15 car. A major announcement at the season’s outset revealed Hamilton’s impending move to Ferrari at the end of the year, adding another layer of complexity to the Mercedes Petronas campaign.
2023
2023 marked a rare winless season for Mercedes Petronas, the first since 2011. The W14 car showed limited improvement over its predecessor. However, consistent development efforts throughout the season enabled the team to overtake Ferrari for second place in the constructors’ championship in the final race.
2022
Significant regulation changes in 2022 reshaped the competitive landscape of Formula 1. Mercedes Petronas’ W13 car did not fully adapt to these changes, placing them behind Red Bull and Ferrari in the pecking order. George Russell, in his first year with Mercedes Petronas, achieved the team’s single victory of the season and outperformed Lewis Hamilton, who experienced his first winless season in his F1 career.
2021
The 2021 season presented the most significant challenge to the turbo-hybrid era dominance of Mercedes Petronas. Lewis Hamilton narrowly lost the drivers’ championship to Max Verstappen of Red Bull, despite securing eight race wins. Nevertheless, the Mercedes Petronas team demonstrated resilience, clinching their eighth consecutive constructors’ title.
2020
In 2020, Mercedes Petronas and Lewis Hamilton reached new heights of performance. Hamilton dominated the season, winning 11 races and breaking numerous records on his way to equalling Michael Schumacher’s record of seven drivers’ world championships. This achievement came despite Hamilton missing a race due to Covid-19. Valtteri Bottas added two more wins, securing another dominant double championship victory for the Mercedes Petronas Silver Arrows.
