Porsche 911 Sport Classic: A Modern Masterpiece of Heritage Design

The Porsche 911 Sport Classic makes a grand entrance as a limited-edition model, with only 1,250 units being produced. This exclusive vehicle from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur is a nostalgic nod to the iconic styles of the 1960s and early 1970s. Echoing its predecessor based on the 997 generation, introduced in 2009, this new 911 Sport Classic draws inspiration from the original 911 (1964-1973) and the legendary 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7.

Alexander Fabig, Vice President Individualization and Classic at Porsche, describes the Heritage Design models as “the most emotionally driven concepts” in Porsche’s product strategy. This initiative, a collaboration between Style Porsche and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, aims to reinterpret iconic 911 models and features from the 1950s to 1980s. The 911 Sport Classic is the second of four limited-edition heritage models, following the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition launched in 2020, which captured the essence of the 1950s and 1960s.

Adding to the exclusivity, Porsche Design has crafted a special chronograph for purchasers of the 911 Sport Classic, mirroring design elements from the car. Furthermore, the Heritage Design Classic package extends the retro charm to current 911 models, offering selected interior features inspired by the Sport Classic.

Design Highlights: Wide Body and Ducktail Spoiler

The new 911 Sport Classic distinguishes itself with a wide body, typically seen on the 911 Turbo models, along with a fixed rear spoiler reminiscent of the iconic ‘ducktail’ from the Carrera RS 2.7, and a distinctive double-bubble roof. These elements underscore the unique character of this special edition.

Exclusive Sport Grey Metallic and Interior Design

Mirroring the first 997-generation 911 Sport Classic, designers chose Fashion Grey as inspiration for the exclusive paint finish. Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche, notes, “The new 911 Sport Classic is the first vehicle to feature Sport Grey Metallic paintwork. Grey is never boring, quite often a statement and always cool.” Beyond the exclusive Sport Grey Metallic, the 911 Sport Classic is available in solid Black, Agategrey metallic, Gentian Blue Metallic, or Paint to Sample. Light Sports Grey twin stripes adorn the bonnet, roof, and rear spoiler, emphasizing its sporty aesthetic.

Inside, the iconic Pepita pattern graces the door panels and seat centers. Two-tone, semi-aniline leather upholstery in Black/Classic Cognac provides a sophisticated contrast to the exterior paint options.

Performance: The Most Powerful Manual 911

The 911 Sport Classic’s powertrain is as remarkable as its design. Its 3.7-litre, twin-turbo flat-six engine delivers 405 kW (550 PS) exclusively to the rear wheels. Paired with a seven-speed manual gearbox, this makes the new 911 Sport Classic the most powerful manual 911 in the current lineup.

The gearbox includes an auto-blip function for smoother downshifts, and a model-specific sports exhaust system enhances the auditory driving experience.

Advanced Suspension and Availability

The suspension, derived from the 911 Turbo and 911 GTS, ensures high performance. Standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and sports suspension with a 10-millimetre-lower ride height adapt to dynamic changes rapidly.

The 911 Sport Classic was scheduled for initial delivery in European Porsche Centres starting from July 2022, with other markets following.
