This week, we delve into the 2025 Chevy Trax 2RS, Chevrolet’s entry-level SUV that sits comfortably below the Trailblazer. Following a significant redesign in 2024 where Chevrolet notably skipped the 2023 model year, the 2025 Trax carries forward as a larger, more refined, and surprisingly budget-friendly compact SUV. Its dimensions closely mirror other popular vehicles in its class, yet the Trax gives a visual impression of greater size, translating to a genuinely roomier interior than many competitors.
Striking Exterior Design
The 2025 Trax 2RS immediately grabs attention with its sharp, contemporary aesthetics. The front fascia echoes the design language of the Blazer and Trailblazer, creating a cohesive Chevy SUV family look. Distinctive boomerang-shaped taillights, functional roof rails, a sporty rear spoiler, and eye-catching 19-inch machined wheels on the 2RS trim elevate its curb appeal significantly.

Efficient Powertrain
Powering the 2025 Trax 2RS is a 1.2-liter inline 3-cylinder engine, turbocharged to deliver 137 horsepower. While this figure might seem modest, the Trax’s light weight allows for nimble performance. The turbocharger boosts torque to 162 lb-ft, enabling the SUV to accelerate with surprising ease. Remarkably, this small engine operates with exceptional smoothness and quietness, a characteristic not often associated with downsized powertrains. It’s paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, which, while functional, leaves one wishing for a more modern 9-speed unit.
Premium Interior Experience
The 2RS trim represents the pinnacle of the Trax lineup, and stepping inside reveals a thoughtfully designed interior. The cabin in our test vehicle featured a sophisticated black color scheme punctuated by sporty red accents and elegant gloss black trim on the dashboard and center console. The perceived quality of the interior far exceeds expectations for this price point. Evotex seating surfaces, a high-quality faux leather, provide a luxurious look and feel while being soft to the touch and easy to maintain. The front seats are comfortably shaped and heated for added comfort, although power adjustments are not included.

An 8-inch color driver information screen presents essential vehicle data in a clear and easily digestible format, configurable via the flat-bottomed steering wheel controls. The centerpiece of the dashboard is an expansive 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This system integrates a rearview camera display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 6-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM radio. Physical controls for the air conditioning are conveniently located below the screen. The center console houses the gear selector, a wireless phone charging pad, dual cupholders, and switches to deactivate the start/stop system and traction control.
A standout feature of the redesigned Trax is the generous rear passenger space. Legroom and headroom are surprisingly abundant, comfortably accommodating two adults, with the possibility of squeezing in three if needed. The redesign added 3 inches of rear legroom compared to the previous generation Trax. Rear passengers also benefit from two USB-C ports, though rear air vents and a folding armrest are omitted.

Cargo capacity is commendable, offering 26 cubic feet of space with the rear seats up, expandable to 54 cubic feet when folded. The cargo area is covered, and the cover conveniently lifts along with the tailgate.
Safety and Features
In terms of safety, the 2025 Trax includes forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, front pedestrian braking, an HD rearview camera, and lane departure warning as standard.
Our test vehicle was equipped with the optional Driver Confidence package ($750), adding rear cross-traffic alert, lane change alert with blind spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. It also featured the Sunroof package ($895), which includes a power sliding sunroof with a cloth shade.
Standard equipment is comprehensive, encompassing keyless entry, remote start, heated front seats, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, 19-inch wheels, LED headlights and daytime running lights, and a rear spoiler.
Driving Dynamics and Fuel Economy
The Trax 2RS delivers a pleasant driving experience, characterized by a surprisingly quiet cabin thanks to active noise cancellation. Handling is responsive, and acceleration is more than adequate for everyday driving, even with a spirited driving style. Fuel economy is rated at an EPA-estimated 28 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined. While a 9-speed transmission could potentially improve highway fuel efficiency, the absence of a less desirable CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) is a significant plus. The 3-cylinder engine’s smooth operation is truly remarkable, easily dispelling any preconceived notions about its refinement.
Exceptional Value Proposition
The most compelling aspect of the 2025 Chevy Trax 2RS is its exceptional value. With a starting price just above $20,000, the top-of-the-line 2RS trim, loaded with features as seen in our review, comes in at an incredibly reasonable $27,085. In today’s market, this pricing represents outstanding value, making the 2025 Trax a resounding success for Chevrolet and its dealerships. It’s easy to understand why this compact SUV is making waves in the automotive landscape.
