The Nissan Rogue has undeniably carved a significant space in the competitive compact SUV market. Its consistent performance as Nissan’s top-selling model in both 2017 and 2018 speaks volumes about its appeal. As we delve into the 2019 model year, the Rogue, alongside the Rogue Sport, continues its trajectory of record-breaking sales, fueled by a blend of practicality, comfort, and advanced features.

The 2019 Nissan Rogue is strategically offered in three trim levels – S, SV, and SL – each meticulously designed to provide a compelling combination of a manageable compact size with a surprisingly spacious interior. Thoughtful design elements, such as rear doors that swing open a generous 77 degrees, significantly improve entry and exit for rear passengers, enhancing its family-friendly nature. Coupled with the available Motion-Activated Liftgate, standard on the SV and SL trims, the 2019 Rogue solidifies its position as an ideal vehicle for the demands of daily life and spontaneous family adventures.

Building upon the substantial enhancements introduced in 2018, the 2019 Nissan Rogue incorporates a fresh wave of upgrades, further refining its appeal and technology offerings. Key updates for the 2019 model year include:

  • Special Edition Package (S grade): A newly available package adding considerable value to the base S trim, featuring stylish 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, heated exterior mirrors with integrated LED turn signals for enhanced visibility, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob for a premium feel, heated front seats for driver and passenger comfort, elegant chrome exterior and interior door handles, and practical roof rails for added cargo versatility.

Refined and Dynamic Exterior Design

The 2019 Nissan Rogue maintains its reputation for progressive and emotionally resonant styling. Nissan’s signature “V-Motion” grille, a prominent design cue across the brand’s lineup, and distinctive headlights with LED signature Daytime Running Lights, contribute to the Rogue’s assertive and dynamic road presence. Standard halogen headlights with an auto-off function and Intelligent Auto Headlights (I-AH) provide reliable illumination, while available LED headlights with auto on/off function, High Beam Assist (HBA), and fog lights offer enhanced visibility in various conditions. At the rear, combination lamps with LED boomerang signature taillights add a touch of modern sophistication and brand identity.

Further exterior highlights include body-color heated outside mirrors, optionally equipped with integrated turn signals for added safety and style, a rear spoiler that contributes to aerodynamic efficiency, privacy glass for rear passengers, and functional roof rails. An available power panoramic moonroof dramatically opens up the cabin, providing an expansive view of the sky. The moonroof features a sliding and tilting front glass panel and a fixed rear panel, designed for a seamless open-air experience. Aerodynamic efficiency is also a consideration in the Rogue’s design, evidenced by its low coefficient of drag of 0.33.

The Rogue SL trim distinguishes itself with standard aggressive 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, while 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels are available on SV models, contributing to a more upscale and refined overall aesthetic.

The 2019 Rogue offers a palette of nine exterior colors, allowing buyers to personalize their vehicle. These include Brilliant Silver Metallic, Gun Metallic, Magnetic Black Pearl, premium Pearl White Tricoat, Glacier White, premium Monarch Orange Metallic, Caspian Blue Metallic, Midnight Pine Metallic, and premium Scarlet Ember Tintcoat.

Premium Interior Ambiance and Versatility

Stepping inside the 2019 Nissan Rogue reveals an interior crafted with a focus on premium feel and enhanced functionality. Notable interior features include a sporty D-shaped steering wheel and a leather-booted sport-mode shifter, adding a touch of driver-centric design. Available features like a heated steering wheel, memory settings for driver’s seat and mirror positions, and remote engine start further enhance convenience and comfort. For the ultimate in luxury, the Platinum Reserve Interior Package, exclusive to Rogue SL models, features premium tan leather-appointed seats with distinctive quilted leather inserts, elevating the sense of opulence within the cabin.

Practicality is at the forefront of the Rogue’s interior design. Every seat except the driver’s seat conveniently folds down, maximizing cargo space and flexibility. The front passenger seat folds rearwards, creating a long, flat loading surface capable of accommodating items up to 8 feet in length when combined with the flat-folding 40/20/40-split second-row seat. The innovative Divide-N-Hide® Cargo System offers an impressive 18 adjustable configurations between the cargo and passenger areas, allowing for customized organization and storage solutions.

Front bucket seats feature Nissan’s acclaimed Zero Gravity design, engineered to provide exceptional support and reduce fatigue on longer drives. The driver’s seat offers 6-way adjustability, with available power adjustment including lumbar support, while the front passenger seat is 4-way adjustable. Available Quick Comfort™ heated front seats are designed for rapid warming, focusing on heat-sensitive areas like the thighs and hips for immediate comfort in colder climates. Luxurious leather-appointed seats are standard on SL models, further emphasizing the premium nature of the higher trims.

Standard interior features provide a comprehensive suite of entertainment and connectivity options, including SiriusXM® Satellite Radio (subscription required), a 5.0-inch center meter color display (Advanced Driver Assist™ Display), a 4-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system with auxiliary input, USB port for iPod® and other devices, Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, RearView Monitor, Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®, and Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant. Available upgrades include dual-zone automatic air conditioning for personalized climate control and a premium Bose® audio system with nine speakers for an immersive sound experience. Remote Engine Start (RES) provides added convenience, allowing drivers to pre-condition the vehicle’s interior remotely.

Interior color options include Charcoal and Almond, along with the exclusive Premium Tan available with the Platinum Reserve Interior Package, allowing for personalization of the cabin’s ambiance.

Advanced Safety, Connectivity, and Driver Assistance Technologies

The 2019 Nissan Rogue is equipped with a range of advanced connected technology and smartphone integration features, prioritizing both convenience and safety. New for 2019 is the innovative Rear Door Alert (RDA) system, a testament to Nissan’s commitment to practical innovation. RDA serves as a valuable reminder for drivers to check the rear seat area upon exiting the vehicle, mitigating the risk of inadvertently leaving behind valuables, groceries, or, more critically, children or pets.

Developed by Nissan engineers who are also mothers, the RDA system is uniquely designed to be both effective and unobtrusive. It utilizes a series of distinctive horn honks as the driver walks away from the vehicle if it detects that a rear door was opened and closed before a trip but not reopened after the trip concluded. This auditory alert distinguishes Nissan’s RDA from other similar systems. The system progresses through notifications, starting with a visual display in the instrument panel and escalating to subtle horn chirps.

Every 2019 Rogue model also includes NissanConnectSM featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, integrated via a user-friendly 7.0-inch color touch-screen display. The NissanConnect with Navigation system, available as part of the Premium Package and Sun and Sound Touring Package for Rogue SV models, further enhances connectivity with features like Nissan Voice Recognition for navigation and audio, SiriusXM® Travel Link® and Traffic (subscription required).

Rogue SL models come standard with NissanConnect with Navigation and Services powered by SiriusXM® (subscription required), also featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, providing a comprehensive suite of connected services.

Standard Rogue Safety Shield technologies encompass a suite of active safety features, including Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Intelligent Lane Intervention (I-LI), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection, radar-based Blind Spot Warning (BSW), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). Rear Automatic Braking (RAB) is newly standard for 2019 on SV and SL grades, further bolstering the Rogue’s safety credentials.

ProPILOT Assist: Easing the Driving Burden

The 2019 Rogue continues to offer the acclaimed ProPILOT Assist system, first introduced in 2018, designed to reduce driver workload in certain driving conditions. ProPILOT Assist can assist with acceleration, steering, and braking, contributing to a more relaxed and confident driving experience, especially in highway traffic. Activation is simple, requiring just a press of the blue ProPILOT Assist ON button on the steering wheel and setting the Intelligent Cruise Control to the desired speed.

When lane markers are consistently detected, the steering assist function engages, visually indicated by green steering wheel/lane marker icons on the instrument panel. The system requires detection of both right and left lane markers by the forward camera. Steering assist activation and deactivation are dependent on lane marker visibility, while Intelligent Cruise Control remains active. In stop-and-go traffic, if the vehicle comes to a complete halt for more than three seconds, resuming movement is initiated by pressing the resume button or tapping the accelerator pedal.

Tuned specifically for U.S. roads, ProPILOT Assist is engineered for intuitive and user-friendly operation. It aims to mitigate driver fatigue and enhance driving confidence, particularly beneficial for drivers frequently navigating congested highways. The system utilizes a combination of a forward-facing camera, forward-facing radar, sensors, and an electronic control module to assist the driver in maintaining lane centering and a chosen speed, or maintaining a set distance from the vehicle ahead. ProPILOT Assist can also bring the Rogue to a complete stop and hold it in place in traffic jams.

Steering assist is temporarily disabled in heavy rain or snow when windshield wipers are in low or high-speed modes. However, it can remain active with intermittent wiper use or mist function if lane lines are still detectable. Driver input always takes precedence, overriding the system when the steering wheel is turned or turn signals are activated. ProPILOT Assist also enters standby mode when the accelerator pedal is pressed. Both Intelligent Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assistance are deactivated upon brake application.

For the 2019 model year, ProPILOT Assist is now standard on the SL grade and optionally available on the Rogue SV, making this advanced driver-assistance technology more broadly accessible.

Efficient and Responsive Performance

All 2019 Nissan Rogue models are powered by a responsive 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, delivering 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an advanced Xtronic transmission featuring standard Sport Mode and Eco switches, allowing drivers to tailor performance and efficiency. Fuel economy is rated at an EPA-estimated 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined for front-wheel-drive models. Rogue AWD models achieve ratings of 25 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined.

The 2019 Rogue incorporates Nissan’s suite of dynamic technologies designed to inspire driver confidence, including Intelligent Trace Control (I-TC), Intelligent Engine Braking (I-EB), and Intelligent Ride Control (I-RC), contributing to a smoother and more controlled driving experience.

Standard chassis features include 4-wheel independent suspension, Electric Power-assisted Steering, and 4-wheel disc brakes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS), and Hill Start Assist, providing a solid foundation for confident handling and braking performance.

Wheel and tire combinations vary by trim level. The SL grade comes standard with 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and 225/55R19 all-season tires. Rogue SV models feature 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 225/65R17 all-season tires, with optional 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and 225/60R18 all-season tires available. The Rogue S trim comes with 17-inch steel wheels or optional 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 225/65R17 all-season tires. Every Rogue model is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with position monitoring and Nissan’s convenient Easy Fill Tire Alert system.

The 2019 Rogue offers a choice of front-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. The Intelligent AWD system is designed for responsive and adaptive performance, reacting to changing road conditions up to 30 times faster than the blink of an eye. In normal driving, it prioritizes front-wheel drive for enhanced fuel efficiency. When slip is detected or during cornering, the system seamlessly distributes torque to the rear wheels, up to a 50:50 split, for optimal traction and control.
