2015 VW GTI Misfire Issues After Spark Plug & Coil Change

Recently, I decided to perform some routine maintenance on my 2015 Vw Gti, opting to replace the spark plugs and ignition coils. I chose high-quality components, specifically:

  • OEM NGK RS7 Double Iridium Spark Plugs (OE # 06K905601M)
  • Red Top OE 8V RS3 / B9 S4 Ignition Coil Packs

During the installation, I noticed that the D-rings on two of the old coils were quite brittle, almost like sugar glass. This made me realize I’d need to replace all of them soon to prevent future issues caused by heat degradation. I’m now on the lookout for durable aftermarket D-rings that can withstand high engine temperatures – any recommendations would be appreciated!

With the new spark plugs and coils installed, I took my 2015 VW GTI for a 25-minute test drive. Initially, the car felt fantastic, and performance seemed noticeably improved. I was really enjoying the drive, but as I turned onto my street, the dreaded EPC (Electronic Power Control) light illuminated, and the engine stalled. This was definitely not the outcome I was hoping for!

The next day, I used a diagnostic tool to check for error codes again. Surprisingly, the new codes seemed to point towards fueling issues. This made me question if the spark plug and coil replacement was even necessary at this point, although these are wear items and likely needed replacement eventually regardless.

I recall that there was a fuel pump recall for this model of 2015 VW GTI a while back, and I believe there might be another active recall currently. I plan to investigate this further, as a failing fuel pump could certainly explain the symptoms. Alternatively, the problem could be related to the fuel injectors.

I’m now trying to figure out the best way to determine whether the issue lies with the fuel pump or the fuel injectors. Any advice or diagnostic steps that could help pinpoint the root cause would be extremely helpful.

Can anyone offer insights into diagnosing these fuel-related fault codes on my 2015 VW GTI? Specifically, how can I differentiate between a failing fuel pump and problematic fuel injectors? Your expertise would be greatly appreciated!
