Join Mercedes-Benz Vans LLC as a Body Shop Operator: Shape the Future of Mobility

Are you ready to shape the future of mobility with a globally recognized leader? Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC, located in Ladson, South Carolina, is seeking motivated and skilled individuals to join our team as Body Shop Operators. This is your chance to contribute to the production of the iconic Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Metris vans, vehicles synonymous with quality, innovation, and reliability. Become part of a pioneering team that is driving the future of transportation.

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is not just an automotive manufacturer; we are a hub of innovation and growth. Our state-of-the-art facility in Ladson produces Sprinter vans for the US and Canadian markets under the esteemed Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner brands. Furthermore, we handle the reassembly of the versatile Mercedes-Benz Metris vans at this strategic location. With a significant $500 million investment in a new Sprinter production plant and the expansion of existing operations, Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC is deeply committed to the North Charleston area and the future of automotive manufacturing in the United States. Since opening the new plant in September 2018, MBV has become a major employer, projected to create up to 1,300 jobs by the end of the decade and fostering an additional 600 jobs in the regional supply chain. The US market has become the second largest for Sprinter vans globally, with over 120,000 vehicles assembled in North Charleston since 2006, demonstrating the critical role of our operations within the Mercedes-Benz global network.

We are currently seeking to expand our Body in White (BIW) department and have multiple openings for Body Shop Operators. Body in White is a critical phase in the vehicle production process where the van’s frame and body panels are precisely welded together, forming the structural foundation of the vehicle. This is essentially the skeleton of the van, the core structure that gives shape to the final product you see. As a Body Shop Operator, you will play a vital role in this process, ensuring the highest levels of precision and quality in every weld.

What You Will Do:

As a Body Shop Operator at Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC, your responsibilities may include a diverse range of tasks within the BIW department. You will be involved in:

  • Operating Advanced Machinery: Feeding materials into automated and robotic welding machines, setting up equipment, and ensuring optimal performance. This role requires a hands-on approach and a willingness to work with cutting-edge technology.
  • Quality Control: Monitoring machinery, performing quality checks and visual inspections of welds to guarantee adherence to Mercedes-Benz’s stringent quality standards. Your attention to detail will be crucial in maintaining our reputation for excellence.
  • Metal Finishing: Sanding, grinding, and deburring metal components to prepare them for the next stages of production. This requires precision and skill in using hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
  • Assembly and Fabrication: Assembling and fabricating metal structures based on detailed work specifications, diagrams, and blueprints. You will need to be able to interpret technical documents and apply them effectively.
  • Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement: Efficiently loading machines, identifying and troubleshooting any issues that arise during operation, and actively participating in our Continuous Improvement Program. Your input and ideas will be valued as we constantly strive for operational excellence.

What You Need to Succeed:

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC is looking for candidates who are dedicated to quality, safety, and teamwork. The minimum requirements for the Body Shop Operator 1 position include:

  • High school diploma or GED strongly preferred.
  • At least 1 year of relevant manufacturing experience or a Lean Manufacturing certificate is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Successful completion of required assessment testing.
  • Knowledge in areas such as welding, gluing, metal finishing, ultrasonic weld inspection, weld destruct testing, hydraulics, pneumatics, metal processing, or data processing is highly advantageous.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Willingness to undergo and successfully pass a drug screen, background check, and pre-placement medical examination.
